MP Police arrested six people on 24 February, in connection with the abduction and killing of two children from MP's Chitrakoot.

The arrests came amid protests against the killing of the children. Protests took place in MP's Chitrakoot after two children who were abducted from a school bus in the district on 12 February were found dead in a river in Uttar Pradesh's Banda on Sunday morning, 24 February.

Rewa IG Chanchal Shekhar said to ANI that the mastermind behind the crime was Vishnukant Shukla, the local area coordinator of the Bajrang Dal. The IG added that while Shukla was the mastermind, he didn't directly participate in the crime. Police said that the primary accused was Vishnukant Shukla's older brother Padam Shukla.

“I spoke to the victims’ father. The politics behind the incident will also be uncovered. Whose flag was on the vehicle in which they were travelling? The police is exposing all that. The Opposition is scared because their people are involved.”
Kamal Nath, CM, Madhya Pradesh

Meanwhile, former MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the family of the deceased boys and asked the government to hand over the case to CBI. He said, “Attempts being made to twist the incident. Why didn't investigating team find success in case? I'll like to tell CM to give this case to CBI. Culprits must be hanged.”

He also said that he would partake in a silent procession at Satna's civil lines area, to pay homage to the twins.

The Incident

Shreyansh and Priyansh Rawat, the six-year-old twin sons of a businessman, had been kidnapped at gunpoint in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district. They were found dead in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, the police said.

The children were both in kindergarten and sons of oil merchant Brijesh Rawat.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom from the father, Chitrakoot's Nayagaon police station in-charge KP Tripathi said, as per PTI.

He said the bodies of the children were found floating in the Yamuna river near Baberu village and were fished out and sent for post mortem to a hospital in Banda.

After the boys were kidnapped, Madhya Pradesh police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information about the twin siblings.

The police of both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were working on the case since Chitrakoot is a border town.

The two masked men had come on a motorbike and abducted the two children at gunpoint when their bus was about to leave the premises of Sadguru Public School on 12 February, a police official earlier said.

The children were residents of Ramghat in Chitrakoot Dham (Karwi) district of Uttar Pradesh.

They used to travel four kilometres across the border to their school every day, Satna's Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh Gaur had said after the incident.
