Sensex, Nifty Clock Longest Weekly Losing Streak In Six Months

Sensex ended 1 percent lower this week to close at 37,882.79 and the NSE Nifty 50 ended at 11,284.30.

Indian equity benchmarks extended declines for the third consecutive week, their longest weekly losing since the end of January. The S&P BSE Sensex ended 1 percent lower this week to close at 37,882.79 and the NSE Nifty 50 ended at 11,284.30, down 1.1 percent.

The broader market represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index ended 1.2 percent lower. The benchmark indices halted their six-day losing streak. The 31-share index and the 50-stock index closed 0.14 percent and 0.29 percent higher respectively today.

The 500-share index closed 0.37 percent higher. The market breadth was tilted in favour of buyers. About 974 stocks advanced and 776 shares declined on National Stock Exchange. Ten out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE ended higher, led by the NSE Nifty Private Bank Index’s 1.24 percent gain. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty IT Index was the top sectoral loser, down 0.82 percent.

Markets Open: Sensex Drops 50 Points, Nifty Below 11,250

Domestic equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty opened on a cautious note on Friday, 26 July, tracking weak global cues, amid sustained foreign fund outflow, PTI reported.

Nifty started the August series on a weak note as it slipped below 11,250 level, Moneycontrol reported.

Sensex was down 51.05 points at 37779.93, while Nifty was down 9.90 points to stand at 11242.30. The broader market index represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index fell as much as 0.24 percent, BloombergQuint reported.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of sellers.

Ten out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE traded lower, led by the NSE Nifty Media Index’s 0.96 percent fall. On the flip side, the NSE Nifty PSU Bank Index was the only sectoral gainer, up 0.34 percent, BloombergQuint reported.

In the previous session, the 30-share index closed at 37,830.98, showing a loss of 16.67 points or 0.04 percent, and the broader NSE Nifty too shed 19.15 points or 0.17 percent to settle at 11,252.15.

In early trade on Friday, M&M, Tata Motors, SBI, Yes Bank, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints and ITC were among the top gainers, rising up to 2 percent.
