Cabinet Approves 20 Percent Raise in Pension for Freedom Fighters

Arun Jaitley had announced the ex-post facto enhancement to be effective from Independence Day of 2016.

The Cabinet approved ex-post facto enhancement of pension for freedom fighters and their eligible dependents on Wednesday.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced a 20 percent raise in the pensions for freedom fighters.

The decision came after the annual budget meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The raise will be effective starting 15 August 2016 when PM Modi had mentioned government’s intention to do so.
