1. India and US Will Destroy 'Radical Islamic Terrorism' Together, Says Trump
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Monday struck a common note on terrorism, vowing to strengthen efforts to fight the menace, during their joint statement at the White House.
The fight against terrorism is our main priority, Modi said after talks with the US President.
“We talked about terrorism, extremism and radicalisation and agreed to cooperate on this. Fight against terrorism and their safe havens is an important part of our cooperation,” he said at the Rose Garden lawns.

2. US Designates Hizbul Chief Syed Salahuddin as Global Terrorist
The US designated Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahudddin a global terrorist just hours ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meetings with the American president on Monday and there was “strong focus” on counter-terrorism in the Indian leader’s meetings with Trump administration officials.
India welcomed the designation, saying it “vindicated” its long-standing position that cross-border terrorism perpetrated from outfits based in Pakistan was behind disturbances in Kashmir .

It also “underlines also quite strongly the fact that both India and United States face the same threat of terrorism”, Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Gopal Bagley told reporters.

3. BCCI SGM: CoA Faces BCCI Members' Wrath
The implementation of the Supreme Court order related to administrative reforms in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dominated the second half of Monday’s Special General Body meeting. However, a majority of the opening session saw the State association representatives venting their anger against the modus operandi of the Committee of Administrators (CoA).
The Hindu understands that Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Madhya Pradesh representative, questioned the logic behind the CoA circulating its “decisions” among the members. He is also understood to have pointed out CoA’s double standards in following procedure with regard to BCCI’s decision-making.

4. Chinese Army Blames India as Troops Face off in Sikkim
The Chinese army accused on Monday the Indian military of provoking tension along the Line of Actual Control in Sikkim, where the two sides were reportedly involved in a tense confrontation earlier this month.
Indian and Chinese troops scuffled near the Doka La area in the first week of June, PTI reported earlier in the day quoting unnamed sources, before soldiers from People’s Liberation Army (PLA) damaged bunkers on the Indian side.
“Recently, the Chinese side in the Donglang area for road construction was blocked by the Indian Army line,” a late-night statement from the PLA said. “The construction of the above-mentioned roads by the Chinese side is entirely a sovereign act in its own territory, and the Indian side has no right to interfere.”

5. Venugopal Frontrunner for AG's Post
The government appears to have zeroed in on constitutional expert KK Venugopal as Mukul Rohatgi's successor for the attorney general's post.
The 86-year-old looks set to return as a law officer after a gap of 40 years. Official sources confirmed that Venugopal has emerged as the front-runner for the AG's post and his name is likely to be announced after PM Narendra Modi's return from the US.
"His experience and stature in the Supreme Court and legal circles makes him stand head and shoulders above the others," a source said.

6. After Eid Prayers, People Take to Streets, Clash With Cops in Valley
Over a dozen people were injured in clashes in Sopore town of Baramulla district of north Kashmir as many shouted pro-freedom slogans and pelted stones after morning prayers for Eid on Monday.
Police and witnesses said many took to streets in Baramulla district, parts of south Kashmir’s Anantnag and Shopian districts and the old city of the state’s summer capital Srinagar.
Residents in the old city of Srinagar said protesters threw stones at security forces after prayers concluded in Eidgah, where the biggest congregation of people was reported in the city. The forces responded by shelling tear gas.

7. FM Urges J&K CM to Roll Out GST on 1 July
The Centre on Monday made a last-ditch effort to get Jammu & Kashmir on board to launch Goods and Services Tax (GST) from 1 July with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley suggesting that the state government had elbow room to convey its concurrence to join the new regime.
At the same time, he cautioned that a failure to launch GST will impact consumers and businesses in the state.
In a letter to J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, the FM suggested that Article 370 of the Constitution gave the state government power to give its concurrence without getting an explicit approval from the assembly .

8. NDA Presidential Candidate Kovind to Meet J&K MLAs on Wednesday
NDA’s presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind will meet Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar on Wednesday to seek the support of lawmakers from the state for the 17 July election.
Kovind will address a meeting of MPs and MLAs from the state at Mufti’s residence, party sources said. He will be accompanied by Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav. All legislators from the PDP and the BJP will vote for him, a source said confidently.
Mufti was expected to be present when Kovind filed his nomination on 23 June, but had to cancel her trip to New Delhi after DSP Ayub Pandith was lynched in Srinagar.

9. Indrani Mukerjea Booked for Rioting
Former HR consultant and media entrepreneur Indrani Mukerjea, who is accused of killing her daughter Sheena Bora, was among the group of inmates who were booked for rioting inside Byculla jail in Mumbai after a 31-year-old inmate was allegedly thrashed by police and succumbed to her injuries.
An FIR was filed against six prison officials, including a jailor.
The inmate, identified as Manju Shetty, was taken to JJ Hospital on Friday night, but was declared dead on arrival. According to Dr T P Lahane, dean at JJ Hospital, the 31-year-old prisoner was brought dead from Byculla prison. “The jail staff rushed her to our hospital at 7.30 pm on Friday.
