Rajasthan's Kalpit Veerwal has clinched the All India Rank 1 in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2017. Not only is he rank 1, but he has scored a whopping 360 out of 360 in the examination – making him the topper of both the General as well as the Scheduled Caste category.

The chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), RK Chaturvedi, personally called Veerwal to deliver the news. But the 17-year-old isn't satisfied just yet.

I am taking it normally and focussing on JEE Advanced, which would be held next month.
Veerwal told Hindustan Times

“I used to study for around 5-6 hours daily apart from coaching classes and classes in school,” he said.

Veerwal has been preparing for this examination since class 8. He enrolled into Kota-based Resonance Eduventure Private Ltd's Udaipur branch and appeared for his Class 12 board exams privately.

A son of a compounder, Veerwal never missed a class he says.

My parents looked after me well so that I do not get ill and miss studies.

His father, Pushkar, is a compounder at Udaipur's Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital and his mother, Pushpa, is a government school teacher. He has an older brother who is a medical student at AIIMS.

Veerwal is yet to decide about his career plans, but is looking to seek admission into IIT-Mumbai for computer science.
