As many as 88 tribals and non-tribals in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district have accused private coal and mining companies of illegal land grabbing, forcing the police to conduct a preliminary inquiry in the case.
The villagers allege that their land was bought through illegal benami transactions, with their signatures being taken on blank paper. There are instances of alleged forged sale deeds as well, hinting at a collusion between state officials and the local land mafia.
