Gurmehar Kaur’s grandfather Kanwaljeet Singh, on Tuesday, said that he stands by what she said, but is worried for her safety.
Condemning incidents of violence at educational institutions, he said: “The government should not instigate such issues".
Referring to comments by political leaders who lashed out at Kaur, Singh said: “Drama is being created and shouldn’t be highlighted. Politicians must refrain from giving such statements”.
He also added that people have been commenting on how she is being brain-washed, but “she is a child who lost her father at such a young age and is well aware of issues around her”.
