Dear soldier,

I always knew that the life of a soldier is rugged, demanding and arduous. However, two years back when I met an army man, Major Vikram Kumar Singh, who was in the same train in which I was traveling, I saw how a soft family person lives inside a tough soldier. It was a short meeting, around two or three hours, but our chat shook me. The officer was going home after two years. At the time he was posted in Pampore in Kashmir where a recent militant attack had happened. He told me about the casualties there and many other things about an army man's life.

No doubt, his life is rocky. I realised that it is not easy to stay confident when every other day your friends die, fighting for the country. And this is the case for every soldier who is unreservedly working for the good of our nation. Amazingly, during his talks, not once did he regret that he is an army man.

I always admire our soldiers and armed forces. Major Vikram Kumar Singh made me see their lives from a different perspective. They are not only fighters, but they are family people too, who are working rock hard all away from home.

Dear soldier, merely imagining your lives makes me get a lump in my throat. I feel you all have different blood that makes you strong to face a situation and how bitter it is. And because of you, we are able to breathe and live safely.

Let me take this opportunity show my gratitude for the unconditional support that you all are giving for the well-being of our country and countrymen. You are the people who protect our freedom. Today’s Indians will never be able to pay this debt.

A big salute to all of you! Jai Hind.
