Around 83 million first-time voters are expected to exercise their right to vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Among them, 15 million are aged between 18 to 19 years.
First-time voters form a little over 15% of the country’s voting population. They may well determine the electoral fortunes of political parties.
Through this video, the Tamil Nadu Young Thinkers Forum aims to urge every first-time voter in this country to “vote podu,” or go vote.
Voting for the first time is indeed a memory that deserves to be archived in our minds and hearts forever. It’s a fundamental right and therefore, a responsibility.
The conversations, discussions, and analysis each first-time voter has are important. Gone are the times of maintaining the status quo. First-time voters, especially the youth, ought to challenge the status quo. Only that would bring more focus and responsibility to the ambitions and aspirations of the citizens. As the saying goes, if you are not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.
