Fresh snowfall graced Kashmir Valley on Wednesday, 6 February, and has continued since, even as the Meteorological Department forecast predicted an improvement in weather conditions from Friday afternoon.
According to traffic officials, the Srinagar-Jammu highway also remained closed for the second consecutive day on Thursday owing to heavy snowfall and landslides in the area.
“No stranded vehicle is parked at any avalanche- or landslide-prone area along the highway,” a department official said.
Authorities decided to allow one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu on Wednesday, but the move was halted due to landslides in Ramsoo-Ramban sector and snowfall in Bannihal.
Flights were also canceled due to heavy snowfall and low visibility at the Srinagar airport on Thursday. All flights operating from the airport were canceled due to snowfall and low visibility a day prior as well.
Additionally, prices of essentials like vegetables, mutton and poultry products, also skyrocketed in the landlocked Kashmir Valley.
