Who is this Zara Siddiqui? Why is she asking simple yet pertinent questions on Women’s Day? Why is she raising issues that may make people uncomfortable? You too might be wondering this. Well, Zara is a progressive Muslim woman who has just completed her BA in Islamic studies. Like any feisty young lady, she doesn’t flinch when it comes to putting forth her views and stands by them no matter what. She wants to change the world around her, and especially wants to dispel misconceptions surrounding her religion through her YouTube channel ‘Zara Ka Nazariya’. Have a look.

Zara believes that men and women should be allowed the same freedom to live their lives the way they want. According to her, religion is to empower not to contain or restrict. Zara feels that a lot of middle class women go through a lot because they don’t know of their rights. By way of her YouTube channel, she wants to change this.

Today is Women’s Day, a day when brands are celebrating your womanhood and your friends and family are busy wishing you. However, Zara doesn’t believe in these token wishes because she feels that before celebrating any such day, women should be first aware of their fundamental rights. They should be free to choose the way they want to live.

Zara has strong views about instant ‘triple talaq’ that was banned by the Supreme Court last year. She believes no man can deny a woman her rights to life, liberty and dignity that have been enshrined in the Constitution. Hear what she has to say:

Her fresh perspective on Islam will demolish the many misconceptions that people associate with the religion and has the power to change their worldview. More than anything else, she wants women to stand up for what is right and confront every injustice with ‘Galat, galat, galat’. So on Women’s Day, here’s saluting her undaunted spirit.
