An elderly woman was reportedly abandoned at Goregaon’s SRV Hospital last week by her son. As it turns out, she might be Geeta Kapoor, a junior actress from the cult film Pakeezah (1972). Possible stardom of yesteryears aside, her story is sad enough. Having been admitted on April 21 for her falling blood pressure, her son, who brought her to the Goregaon hospital, apparently fled on the pretext of going to withdraw money from the ATM, but never came back.
In an interview to MidDay, the patient revealed that her son Raja used to beat her up and would only give her food once in four days. She reportedly also accused him of locking her up for several days, in a deliberate attempt to get her to fall ill.
News reports claim that the hospital is unable to trace the woman’s family as they seem to have moved out of their residence, pointing towards the possibility of this being a well thought out plan.
Apparently, producer Ramesh Taurani and Ashoke Pandit, CBFC member, have offered to pay her hospital bill which is a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh. Though they don’t know her personally, her supposed Pakeezah legacy has compelled them to come forward and help.
