Ganesh Visarjan: Puja Vidhi

On the day of Visarjan, the family that has installed a Ganpati idol performs aarti for Lord Ganesha, after which the prasad is distributed. Visarjan starts with the Uttarang Puja, in which five things, namely deep (oil lamps), pushp (flowers), dhoop (incense), gandh (fragrance) and naivedya (food) are offered to Ganpati.

After the aarti, one member of the family shifts the Ganpati idol forward 5-10 minutes before stepping out for Visarjan. It depicts that the time for visarjan has come. Ganesha idols are then taken with a procession for visarjan.
