If you see celebrities carry off impossible-looking saris and wonder “Why can’t I wear it like that?!” here’s your answer: they’ve had help and in most cases it is professional sari draper Dolly Jain. You read that right, professional sari draper.
When Ranveer Singh’s stylist Nitasha Gaurav shared a picture of him with Deepika at their Mumbai reception, she used the hashtag #dollyjain, which led many to wonder who that was. 44 year-old Dolly started draping saris professionally in 2001 in Kolkata when she realised there was a demand for it. Over 15 years later, Dolly has become a fixture with celebrities who don’t want anything to look less than perfect in their special moments.
Among her many achivements is working on Sonam Kapoor’s wedding, Isha Ambani’s engagement, coming up with 365 styles for wearing a sari (!) and holding the world record for draping a sari in 18.5 seconds.
While we know that Dolly was involved in Wednesday’s reception, her Instagram account includes pictures from all of Deep-Veer’s function which suggest that she has been draping Deepika all this time. A closer look at her profile reveals the many, many celebrities she has been working with.
