This week, a survey by an American dating website crowned Armenian women the sexiest in the world.

Kim Kardashian, ladies and gentlemen, is the most famous Armenian we know.

If this research, and Google Trends are anything to go by, it seems the popularity of Kim K is here for posterity (Warning: More innuendos to follow)!

Back home, we Indians are also no less fond of the booty. MF Husain, the man who knew both his art and women well, made Gaja Gamini for Madhuri Dixit, his muse, in 2000. Gaja Gamini is the one with the walk of an elephant.

These days, no red carpet photo-op is complete without actresses posing with their derrières. Sonam Kapoor, it is reliably learnt, wore bum pads at her first Cannes appearance in 2011.

Malaika Arora Khan, the Indian hot mommy’s butt also garners much attention. Khan appears on Vogue Magazine’s ‘Shape’ issue this month.

Baba Ji Ki Booty

Women are now embracing the power of the butt obvious. Gym instructors are offering special attention to the dérriere too. Squat exercises are the hottest buzzword in women’s fitness circles.

Instagram, known for giving the world crazy photo trends every six months, has allowed women to become celebrities out of belfies. Jen Stelter became an internet sensation, all thanks to her pert butt. Even now, the Belfie (butt + selfie) trend refuses to go, and has already had over 1,60,000 posts on Instagram. We prefer to call it ‘bumfie’ or ‘buttfie’ !

There is even a term for observing someone’s rear – pygoscopia seems like a fairly technical word for what is a pretty base visual fixation.

Besides all the cosmetic hullabaloo of the jaunty butt, it has some health benefits too. A strong butt helps maintain correct posture and reduces backache.

Blame it on Those Rap Booty Videos

Pop culture may have brought The Booty to the mainstream with its ‘booty music’ videos. Drop It Like It’s Hot and other rap videos by 50 Cent, Lil Wayne and Jay Z showed off rappers’ envious lifestlyles – their wealth and accumulated property – including cars, jewellery, and, women with big butts.

Which brings me memories of my first roommate – a ‘booty’ful woman who took her posterior very seriously. Every time she went out, she would ask me, “Does my bum look good in this”?

She looked stunning. At that time I must admit, I could have been easily accused of pygoscopia too.

The booty is now booté. From the burbs, it has moved to the mainstream.
