Soon after they introduced the first transgender news anchor in the country, Lotus News in Tamil Nadu now has a visually challenged news anchor.

The anchor’s name is Sriramanujam and he is 11 years old. Visually challenged since birth, Sriramanujam read a special news bulletin live with the help of Braille in a segment that lasted 22 minutes while his parents anxiously watched on.

Channel Chairman, GKS Selvakumar told PTI that the main purpose of introducing the visually handicapped boy was to promote and create awareness on eye donation among the public.

Sriramanujam, fondly known as Sriram is academically proficient as well, topping his class every time. He was selected by the producers of the news show in the month of December and was subsequently trained for the next four months in news reading, voice modulation, voice culture, posture and managing breaking news situations.

The channel headquartered in Coimbatore is affiliated to the BJP.
