In an effort to revive tourism in Uttarakhand, the Valley of Flowers National Park will open to tourists from Wednesday.

The park is located at an altitude of 11,500 feet in the Chamoli dictrict. After flash floods wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand in June 2013, the park was shut down. Over 5,000 people were killed or went missing.

Among those who went missing were pilgrims to Kedarnath. The shrine was inundated by rain and submerged in the slush. The deluge swept away the bridge connecting the national park to the town of Ghangaria.
