Prasoon Joshi took over as the new chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) a few days back after the previous chief Pahlaj Nihalani was sacked. And the first film under consideration to be certified under his leadership has been banned.

Punjabi film Toofan Singh has been denied certification on grounds of “excessive violence”, according to a report by DNA.

Directed by Baghal Singh and starring Ranjit Bawa, the film revolves around a man who adopts terrorist tactics to fight corruption.

Toofan Singh is a terrorist, who goes on a rampage killing corrupt cops and politicians. And they’ve compared him to Bhagat Singh. The film is brutal and anarchic. We couldn’t empathise with its message of brute power, let alone grant it a censor certificate.
A CBFC Source (As told to DNA)

Toofan Singh though, has already been released overseas.
