1. TN Consulting Experts on Opening Liquor Shops
The Tamil Nadu government will have consultations with senior experts regarding the Supreme Court order which said that there would be no more highway liquor ban in the city.
A senior government official who wished anonymity said, “We will take the opinion of the Advocate General on this issue and then take a call.” He refused to divulge further details.

2. Theatres Make a Killing on Vivegam Tickets
It is the same story every time a big film releases in Tamil Nadu. The advance booking of actor Ajith Kumar’s Vivegam , releasing in over 700 screens in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, may have been exceptional, but several theatres in and around Chennai — which have not completely computerised their ticketing — have been selling tickets over the counter at exorbitant rates, much above the government-mandated prices.
A well-known producer in the industry said the film is likely to collect Rs 50-60 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. “Theatres that don’t sell tickets through their online portal are likely to oversell their tickets for exorbitant prices. If they sell a ticket for Rs 300, a single screen theatre, which charges close to Rs 100 per ticket, will only pay taxes for Rs 100. The rest is unaccounted money,” he said.

3. Two Days After Merger, Both Camps in Sync
Two days after the AIADMK (PTA) and AIADMK (Amma) came together, leaders of the O Panneerselvam faction said there is not much to complain about the current developments in the party.
Meanwhile, the unified factions are expected to decide on the date for holding the general council meeting where a resolution removing Sasikala from her party post is likely to be announced.

4. ‘63% Medical Seats to Go to State Board’
The NEET-based merit list released on Wednesday has belied the conviction that students from CBSE would take away a large chunk of seats in MBBS and BDS.
Sources at the Directorate of Medical Education said that out of the nearly 3,530 seats in the government quota, State Board students are likely to bag some 2,220 seats while the remaining 1,310 will go to students from other Boards. This means nearly 63 percent of the seats will be filled by State Board students. Among the 2,220 State Board students, some 1,280 students, or 60 percent, are from this academic year.

5. Alert Nurse Saves Baby on Suburban Train
Timely intervention by a nurse saved the life of an infant, who suffered an epileptic attack while travelling on a suburban train on Wednesday.
Around 7.30 am, G Gomathi, a nurse at a private hospital in Ennore, boarded the suburban train from Gummidipoondi on her way to work. When the train reached Ponneri, Jayachitra and her one-year-old son Yuvanesh boarded the women’s compartment.
According to Southern Railway employee Rajasekhar, an eye-witness, between Ponneri and Minjur, the child suddenly suffered an epileptic attack.

6. Plaster of Paris Ganesha Idols Banned
The Madras High Court on Wednesday laid down elaborate guidelines on conducting Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations in public places in the city and directed the authorities to ensure that the idols installed temporarily by various organisations were made of clay and not of polluting materials such as Plaster of Paris.
Disposing of two public interest litigation petitions, the First Division Bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar ordered that there should be a complete ban on sound emitting fire crackers between 10 pm and 6 am.

7. Crackdown on Unapproved Schools
Shocked over a private nursery and primary school being functional even after expiry of its recognition way back in 2009, the Madras High Court has directed the School Education Secretary to submit details of the number of schools functioning in the State without approval and the number of students studying there.
During the course of hearing, the judge learnt that the petitioner school was being run till date with a strength of over 120 students.
