The renaming of Haryana’s Marora village after US President Donald Trump has been declared an ‘illegal’ action and unapproved by the government.

The village had been renamed "Trump Sulabh Village" by NGO Sulabh a few days ago.

Sign boards and banners with photographs of Donald Trump put up in the village have reportedly been taken down as per instructions from authorities.

It was all fictitious and a fraud event by the organisers aimed at collecting money across the country and abroad. Organisers neither took any permission from local authorities, or the Haryana and union government, nor have they applied for changing the name of the village. It was all illegal.
MR Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Mewat, to IANS

Earlier this month, social worker and founder of Sulabh International, Bindeshwar Pathak, had announced during a programme in Washington, that he will name an Indian village after Trump, as part of his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

During the event, Pathak interacted with local community and political leaders and said he was working to provide affordable sanitation and toilets to the masses, and to end the practice of manual scavenging.

We have not raised funds from the public. A few big companies are supporting us to build public conveniences. Marora was not declared open defecation free (ODF) at the time of selecting it for ODF.
Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder, Sulabh to IANS

"Village Marora has been already declared open defection free (ODF) by the state government. We have ordered for removal of all signage boards and banners claiming 'Trump Sulabh Village' and are taking appropriate action," Sharma added.

Marora village is home to nearly 1,800 people, mostly Meos (Muslims). Sulabh claimed that it has 160 houses, while only 20 have toilets.
