Khandelwal took time out from his schedule to teach Physics and Mathematics to the aspirants and selected them on the basis of a written test in October 2014. The coaching started in 2015 and lasted till the exam date last year.

The 54-year-old officer taught the students whenever he found time at a private school campus in the state capital.

The JEE Advanced is the entrance exam for admission to the most sought-after institutes for technology across the country – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

Among his students, Yash Raj bagged All India Rank or AIR 224, Aranya Aryaman AIR 570, Mayank Kumar AIR 827 and Amitanshu Kumar secured the 2814th position. Rai Apurav Nath and Mayank Kumar Meena secured the AIR 3210 and 3624 respectively., reports Hindustan Times.

Khandelwal cited his joy for teaching the reason behind his efforts and initiative.

I cannot express in words how I feel; it is a wonderful feeling when your students achieve something.

The IAS officer is not new to coaching students for these competitive exams. Earlier in 2013, he coached his son who secured what was the best rank achieved by a student in the state till date – AIR 9. Khandelwal’s elder son got AIR 570 also with the help of his father in 2011.

“After teaching my sons and seeing them succeed, I thought of preparing other students for IIT. I am not teaching any student for now, but I will definitely train another batch for the JEE soon”, Khandelwal told Hindustan Times.
