Nirbhaya Verdict: Twitter Now Seeks Death For Bilkis Bano Convicts

Just a day before the Supreme Court delivered a historic judgement in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case – pronouncing the death sentence for all four convicts – the Bombay High Court had rejected the death plea for the accused in the Bilkis Bano case. On 4 May, the conviction and life imprisonment of 12 people in the March 2002 Bilkis Bano gangrape case was upheld.

As the parents of Jyoti Singh – who was dubbed Nirbhaya – found justice in the SC verdict, Twitterati engaged in a heated debate on why Bilkis Bano’s case was treated differently, and the accused were given life imprisonment instead of the death penalty.
