Gujarat Governor OP Kohli has given his approval to the Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 2017 that provides life term for cow slaughter, reports CNN-News18.

Earlier, on 31 March, the Gujarat Assembly amended the cow protection law, adding life imprisonment for the offenders. The law, until now, stipulated a punishment of maximum 7 years of imprisonment.

Other amendments to the bill include a fine up to Rs 1 lakh, and a permanent confiscation of vehicle used to transport cattle in. This law now makes Gujarat the toughest on cow protection.
