High tension prevailed outside the DGP office in Thiruvananthapuram on 5 April, following a protest by the family of Jishnu Pranoy – who was found dead at the Nehru College of Engineering & Research Centre in January.

Jishnu's mother Mahija, father Ashokan, uncle Sreejith and 11 other members of his family reached DGP Loknath Behera's office on Wednesday morning to protest the delay in probe.

However, they were stopped by the police, who told them that only six people would be allowed into the DGP’s office. When Jishnu's family resisted, they were forcefully removed from the spot.

Women police personnel dragged Jishnu's mother Mahija away after she resisted arrest.

Though Jishnu's uncle had appealed to the police that they would carry a peaceful protest, the police arrested them, after negotiating with them for a few minutes.

Although all the 14 protesters were first believed to have been taken to the AR camp in a police van, latest reports suggest that they are being taken to Poojapura police station.

The DGP is believed to have met them at the police station.
