India will be facing a terrible heat wave through this week without much relief, AccuWeather said.

Temperatures will reach 38 degrees Celsius in most states of India, with the exception of the coastal areas and the Himalayan belt. The coastal areas will, however, become unbearably humid.

It was a hot day in Delhi, with the mercury settling six notches above normal at 38.2 degrees Celsius. Temperature in Dehradun as well as Srinagar was recorded much above the normal for this part of the year. Temperatures in the capital will fall between 21-24 degrees Celsius during night time.

Narnaul in Haryana sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius, as maximum temperature across the state and neighbouring Punjab hovered several notches above normal limits.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a high of 35.9 degrees Celsius, four notches more than normal.

In Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi and Agra were the hottest places in the state with a high of 41.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Hamirpur at 41.2 degrees Celsius, it said.

Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh can expect the temperature to sore beyond 40 degrees Celsius. In fact, Maharashtra’s Bhira village recorded world’s second highest temperature at 46.5 degrees Celsius.

Such an untimely heat wave will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and heat stroke.
