The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to stay the CBI probe into Narada sting operation case in which several TMC leaders were allegedly caught on camera taking money. The Court extended the time for registration of the FIR in the case from 72 hours given by Calcutta High Court to one month.

If the CBI does file the FIR, all the accused Trinamool leaders are likely to be called in for questioning and also face the possibility of getting arrested, pointed out an NDTV report.

The SC took on record an "unqualified apology" tendered by the West Bengal counsel, and dismissed the Special Leave petition (SLP) as withdrawn.

Additionally, the grounds taken by the West Bengal government in its plea against the High Court order were termed “unfortunate” by the SC, which also called for an "outright" rejection of them.

While rejecting the plea of TMC leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Saugata Roy for the SIT probe monitored either by apex court or HC, the Supreme Court further said that the inferences and opinion of the High Court in the order would not influence the CBI probe.
