Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani, in a letter on Saturday, vehemently dismissed Justice CS Karnan and ‘advised’ him to “withdraw every word you have uttered”.
The former BJP member called him a “lunatic” and said that “I am convinced you have lost your mind”.
This letter comes only a day after the Supreme Court issued a bailable warrant against the Calcutta High Court judge on Friday which he termed as an "attempt to ruin" his life as a Dalit judge.
His statements were made only hours after a seven-judge Constitution bench asked the West Bengal Police chief to serve the warrant to Justice Karnan and sought his presence before it on 31 March.
Karnan then ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe all the seven judges of the apex court, and directed filing of a case under the SC and ST Act.
Justice Karnan had in January named 20 “corrupt judges”, seeking a probe against them to curb “high corruption” in the Indian judiciary. The letter resulted in contempt proceedings against him. After the alleged open contemptuous letters written by him against the Madras HC Chief Justice, addressed to the CJI, Prime Minister and others, the court had initiated proceedings against him. He is also the first sitting judge to face contempt charges.
