With the Dalai Lama visiting Arunachal Pradesh and Tawang in the coming days, India has asked China not to attach any political message to the visit, as DNA reports.

The Dalai Lama is a revered religious figure who is treated as such by the government and the people of India. Government has no say in his travels within India and no political meaning should be attached to them as such.

China expressed concerns over the spiritual leader’s visit to India on Friday saying it would seriously hamper bilateral ties between the two countries.

India was also urged to honour its commitments with China on Tibet-related issues. The Dalai Lama is to visit the Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh after eight years between 4-13 April.
