The past few days have been chaotic and scary for Gurmehar Kaur, who has been shamed and threatened with rape for raising dissent against the violence that erupted at the gates of Ramjas College on 22 February.

Amidst accusations by political leaders and others of being brainwashed and being advised to exercise restraint while speaking out loud, the 20-year-old Delhi University student had to leave Delhi on Tuesday.

But support has emerged from across the world when Fayaz Khan, a Pakistani national, posted a YouTube video that sends love to her from the “Dushman Desh”.

A Kargil martyr’s daughter, Kaur was part of a video where she is seen holding placards that urge India and Pakistan to work on their differences and not go to war. The strongest part being: “Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him.”

Fayaz Khan, who is originally from Swat, filmed the video in similar manner sympathising with Kaur saying he has seen “war and death very closely” back home.

He goes on to say that he is surrounded by “thousands of Gurmehar Kaur” and will fight “restrictions” between the two nations “through better understanding and education”.
