The Director of Corbett Tiger Reserve has been removed from his post following a controversy over a shoot-at-sight order issued by him in the national park to check the activities of poachers.
Uttrakhand’s Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy said that Parag Madhukar Dhakate has been replaced by Dheeraj Pandey as Director.
A five-day anti-poaching operation had been called after suspected poacher movement was reported. Dhakate had issued shoot-at-sight orders against poachers.
He had stated that the order must only be carried out for "self-protection against poachers carrying arms", The Hindu had reported.
Corbett has the second highest tiger population in India with 340 tigers, according to the 2015 tiger census.
