Hoardings, asking Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslims to leave the area, have been spotted in Jammu.
The hoardings, which bear photographs of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party leaders, urge “Jammuites to unite to save history, culture and identity of Dogras”. The words “Wake Up Jammu” (sic), in bold, adorn the top of the hoardings.
Last week, a division bench of the state High Court issued “post-admission notices” to the Chief Secretary, the Commissioner-Secretary Home, the DGP and the IG for the Jammu zone, asking them to respond within a fortnight to a PIL seeking identification and deportation of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis from the region, The Indian Express reported.
Commenting on the issue, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party chairman, Harsh Dev said:
It is the question of the very survival of Dogras who have already lost their identity due to the settlement of people from other parts of the state on the outskirts of Jammu city.
The PIL was filed by advocate Hunar Gupta, a member of the BJP’s legal cell for the state.
It was backed by Sunil Sethi, a senior advocate and chief spokesperson for the state BJP. Sethi claimed that there was a marked increase in the number of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The report quoted Congress spokesperson Ravinder Sharma as saying:
If they are a security threat, let BJP take a call on the issue and deport them in view of its being in power both at the Centre and in the state.Ravinder Sharma, Congress spokesperson
