Everyone was in for a surprise when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, replaced the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi on the 60-year-old Khadi Calendar and Diary. While Indians took to social media platforms to express their reaction on it (#चरखा_चोर_मोदी started trending on Twitter), politicians too had a lot to say.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to express her outrage.
Rahul Gandhi termed this change as ‘Mangalyaan Effect’ and said that “Modi would take credit for sending the Mangalyaan if he had his way’’.
Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson, Tushar Gandhi too criticised the move and called it a ‘strategy’ to gain credibility.

Another MLA, Kuldeep Bishnoi had something interesting to say.
The Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) said that Gandhi is sacred and no one should have replaced him.
The former Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot called it a ‘publicity tactic’.
