Border Security Force Inspector General DK Upadhyay has expressed surprise at the allegations levelled on the force by BSF jawan Tej Bahadur in a viral video. In the video, Bahadur alleged that “corrupt officials” were siphoning off the supplies meant for the soldiers.

In a press conference on 10 January, Upadhay accused Bahadur of having levelled the allegations for a “different intention”.

“He (Bahadur) indulged in indisciplinary actions, was to be court-martialled in 2010,” Upadhyay said, adding that leniency had been shown to the jawan keeping his family in mind.

“DIG-level officers who have visited the camp in past have never received any complaint regarding allegations levelled in the video,” he said.

“It is a sensitive matter for us, we will probe the whole matter and take actions accordingly,” he said. The IG said there would be an enquiry as to why Tej Bahadur was carrying a mobile phone while on duty.

Bahadur had complained that the soldiers guarding the border were given food of a poor quality. Upadhyay said he agreed that the food did not taste good but reiterated that he had not received any complaints from the jawans in the matter.

I agree that the taste isn’t good because in winters there is tinned and dehydrated food but jawans don’t complain.

He said that couldn’t comment on the allegations but said that strict action would be taken against the defaulters.

The IG BSF said that the soldier would be shifted to another headquarters.

He will be shifted to a different headquarter so that no one can pressurise him and fair enquiry can be held.
