Indigo, SpiceJet Flights Come Face to Face at Delhi Airport

Both airlines issued statements, claiming they had done nothing wrong.

A major mishap was averted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Tuesday after an IndiGo flight and a SpiceJet aircraft narrowly escaped a collision.

“An Indigo flight 6C-729 which was coming from Lucknow to Delhi with 176 passengers on board, post landing on the taxi way saw a SpiceJet aircraft in front of it,” IndiGo spokesperson Ajay Jesra said.

Both IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued statements regarding the incident.

The IndiGo flight 6E-769 (Lucknow – Delhi) while taxing in at Delhi airport on Tuesday morning, observed another aircraft in front of it. Following Standard Operating Procedures, Captain-in-Command took the decision of switching off the engine and reported incident to ATC.

SpiceJet flight SG 123 operating Delhi-Hyderabad was following ATC instructions at all times at the Delhi airport. While taxiing, crew observed another aircraft on same taxiway in opposite direction. Acting promptly, the crew immediately intimated ATC. At no stage safety of passengers, crew or the aircraft was compromised and all concerned authorities were immediately informed.

The matter has been reported to Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The DGCA has ordered a probe into the incident.
