The BJP has been accused of a ‘conspiracy’ by the AIADMK, just a day after Tamil Nadu state government’s Chief Secretary Rama Mohana Rao’s residence and offices were raided by the Income Tax department. The allegations have been denied by the BJP.
There seems to be a ‘motive’ behind these attacks, said AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan, according to The Times Of India. He termed the move a ‘betrayal’ by the BJP government, post the death of former TN Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa 17 days ago.
The party’s spokesperson Dheeran also said that the raids might be a ‘conspiracy’ by the BJP. He believes that these raids might be a way to threaten the AIADMK and use the support of 49 MPs in Parliament.
According to reports by The Times Of India, the AIADMK think that the BJP is applying ‘pressure tactics’ to gain necessary support.
Union Ministers Pon Radhakrishnan and Nirmala Seetharaman have stated that ID and ED are Central agencies who raided the Chief Secretary as they got information about him while they were investigating Shekhar Reddy’s case.
They denied all allegations by the AIADMK while calling it a ‘routine investigation’, and refused to comment further.
Tax officials have claimed that after raids in eleven places, Rs 30 lakh in new currency notes, five kilograms of gold, and documents with details of undisclosed assets worth about Rs 5 crore have been seized.
The raids at P Rama Mohana Rao’s residence began on Wednesday morning and continued all night. According to reports, his son Vivek’s house was also raided.
