The Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) floated by preacher Zakir Naik has been declared an outlawed organisation under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by the Union Cabinet.

The foundation which was termed illegal by the government has been banned for 5 years, according to NDTV report.

His foundation was put under the prior permission category, thus preventing it from receiving foreign funds without first receiving a nod from the central government.

Naik, who heads the IRF, had allegedly made many provocative speeches and engaged in terror propaganda. Maharashtra police had also registered criminal cases against Naik for his alleged involvement in radicalisation of the youth and luring them into terror activities.
