Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik late on Monday visited the SUM Hospital to take stock of the situation. The minister, deeply grieved by the hospital fire, ordered an enquiry to look into the cause of the fire that claimed the lives of 19 people.

Prime Minister Modi also reacted to the situation and expressed his anguish, ordering the Centre’s necessary support to help the injured and the affected. He said that transfer of the injured to AIIMS is being facilitated.

Union Health Minister said that AIIMS Bhubaneshwar has been contacted and all facilities are being provided to the affected people.

The state government has launched a high-level probe into the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire and whether there was any lapse on the part of the hospital authorities.
