It has emerged that mastermind of Thane’s multi-crore extortion racket, 23-year-old Sagar Thakkar aka Shaggy, gifted his 21-year-old girlfriend a Rs 2.5 crore Audi R8 on her birthday. And he purchased the luxury car from none other than the current Indian Test captain, Virat Kohli.
Police said that neither was Kohli aware of Shaggy’s background nor the scam.
On enquiries, we found that he had purchased the vehicle from cricketer Virat Kohli. Kohli obviously did not know about Thakkar’s background and is not linked to the case in any way.DCP Parag Manere told The Indian Express
Shaggy had run the racket through a Mira Road based call centre that duped unsuspecting American clients.

He reportedly owned many high-end cars and had bought the Audi in question from Ahmedabad. Police have not been able to locate his girlfriend so far, though they have arrested some of his school friends who were allegedly involved in the racket.
Shaggy’s reach is allegedly till Dubai, where a business of his used to fund the racket.
Last week, an FBI agent arrived in Thane to probe into the scam, whose victims lost millions of dollars. Police have reportedly ordered a Look-out Circular (LOC) to catch hold of Shaggy. The Crime Branch has also stepped in.
The scam came to light when police raided seven call centres on Mira Road.
