After praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi on conducting the surgical strikes, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi took back all his praises on Thursday.

In his first address after returning to Delhi, Gandhi had launched an offensive against Modi and said:

Our soldiers are shedding their blood, carrying out surgical strikes, and you are hiding behind them. You are playing politics at the cost of our soldiers’ sacrifices.

However, he offered a clarification the very next day.

However, the wrath of Opposition leaders knew no bounds.

Controversial BJP leader Subramanian Swamy attacked Gandhi, saying, “Rahul Gandhi either has had no education or should get a mental check-up done for using these words against the Prime Minister.”

Confusion Within Congress

The Congress as a party has been quite confused about their reactions towards the surgical strikes. While senior leaders like Shashi Tharoor lauded the decision, Sanjay Nirupam demanded proof of the strikes. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala too first praised the attacks and then said that the Congress thought it was wise to not publicise such strikes.

Twitter Unleashed

Undoubtedly, his remarks offended some people’s sentiments and here’s how they reacted.
