Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government has collected samples of biryani from around the state in the crackdown against consumption of beef.

Besides being timed just before the Bakri Eid, the inspection was ordered after complains of pieces of beef being found in biryanis in Mundaka village of the Mewat region of Haryana.

The inspection was carried out by the Haryana police on the direction of the Gau Sewa Ayog or the Cow Welfare Commission formed by the state government.

Haryana has the most stringent laws against cow slaughter, and could result in 10 years in prison and Rs 1 lakh fine.

The deputy director of the Mewat Animal Husbandry Department, Narender Kumar, said, according to a report by the Hindustan Times:

We collected the samples and handed them over to the police. More samples will be collected from Mundaka, Ghasera, and Ferozpur Jhirka area in coming days.

Bhani Ram Mangla, the Chairman of Gau Sewa Ayog, told The Times of India that the commission received complaints of “the vendors mixing a little rice with the meat to camouflage it”.

Aftab Ahmed, former transport minister of Haryana, said that although the law needs to be abided by, there is no need to insult and harass people.
