As the Union Cabinet gave an approving nod to the introduction of the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016, on Wednesday, LGBTQ activist Harish Iyer raised some questions for the government.

Iyer, who is extremely happy about the fact that the Centre is thinking about women’s rights, has some reservations about some of the nuances of the bill.

What happens to the women who offer wombs for surrogacy? Is there an alternate profession for them? What happens to homosexual couples who want to have kids?
