Congress politician Ramya has said she will not apologise for any of her comments on Pakistan, which received a massive backlash on social media and a civil complaint on Tuesday.

She said, “It’s not that I have an ego or something. I have no problem apologising if I have made a mistake. But there is nothing wrong in what I said”, while speaking to The News Minute.

Ramya attended the SAARC Young Parliamentarians Conference in Pakistan from 16-18 August.

Coming back from the visit, she said that Pakistan is not hell. Her comment was a refutation of Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement on Pakistan earlier.

Ramya said that she would be taking action against the report filed against her by a Kodagu-based advocate after she gets a copy.

An FIR hasn’t been filed yet.

The actor-turned-politician put the blame of the current atmosphere of fear on the media as well the politicians.

This atmosphere is being created by both the media as well as politicians. If you look at the Kannada channels, they are using terms such as ‘pro-Pakistan’ and ‘Ramya who batted for Pakistan’. They are just adding fuel to the fire.

Ramya maintained that everyone is entitled to their views and no one can force anything on anyone in a democracy.

Its freedom of speech. It is our duty to speak on inclusiveness and peace. Curbing freedoms is wrong in democracy. Politicians want to polarise and spread hatred. Just because borders separate us, we shouldn’t hate others.
