‘Ma’am Hates Me’: Sushant Rohilla’s Chats Reflect Mental Torture

College authorities were held responsible for 21-year-old Sushant Rohilla’s suicide that happened on 10 August.

The atmosphere in Amity Law School on Friday was a mix of euphoria and relief. ‘Sushant has got justice’ echoed on campus.

Director of the college, Professor BP Sehgal and Professor Isheeta Rutabhasini, the two faculty members against whom students had been protesting in the aftermath of the suicide of Sushant Rohilla, have resigned, a spokesperson of the college told The Quint.

“The faculty members have resigned keeping in mind the sentiments and emotions of the family,” the spokesperson said via email.

Skeletons in the Closet

As the news of the resignation came in, a student contacted The Quint, providing information about Sushant’s conversations with his friends about Rutabhasini.

Students claim that she was responsible for the mental torture that Sushant faced weeks before his death.

‘We are Relieved, But the Fight is Still On’

21-year-old Sushant committed suicide on 10 August. According to his friends and family, the fact that he was detained for a whole year due to arbitrary attendance policies by the college led him to take the extreme step.

Students told The Quint that two faculty members in question exercised dictatorial powers over the students and harassed them.

“Here’s to the end of a draconian dictatorship. We’ve carried out the first step towards bringing you to justice, and we’ll continue till we win this fight for you. Missing you and your sarcastic quips and your hopping around so much,” read a post by a student after the announcement of the resignation was made.

It’s a double victory for us as both the Director and Isheeta have resigned. This is for you Sushant. We hope you are in peace now.

A student told The Quint

“The family has also filed a criminal complaint against the authorities,” she added.

‘The Investigation is Still Going On’: Amity Spokesperson

Students and alumni of the college have been spearheading a movement against college authorities since Tuesday.

Although the official document confirming the resignation is yet to be released, the college has sent The Quint the findings of the interim report regarding Sushant’s death.

An Amity official talking to the media outside the college said: “The investigation is ongoing. We will give more information as it comes. We have made this announcement keeping in mind (Sushant’s) mother’s and students’ emotions.”
