Arundhati Bhattacharya, the first female chairperson of the nation’s largest bank SBI, has been ranked among the top five most powerful women in finance by Forbes magazine.
Bhattacharya has moved up five spots from the previous year to clinch the 5th spot this year, SBI said in a statement.
She was also ranked 25th in Forbes’ list of ‘The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’, which features top female leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, philanthropists and CEOs.
Bhattacharya has been instrumental in transforming the bank which is over 200 years old into a technologically-driven lender with newer features like:
- SBIiNTOUCH digital banking outlet
- Mobile wallet State Bank Buddy
- Internet banking for smartphones State Bank Anywhere
- SBI Tech Learning Centres for educating customers
- Payment aggregator service SBI e-Pay
Under her leadership, SBI grew its network to include 17,000 branches. It serves over 330 million customers and is present in 36 countries.
