What is it like to be a girl in rural Bihar in 2017 — asks a survey held with 36,812 girls across the state by Going to School, a Delhi based NGO. The majority of the participants (83%) were between 8th and 10th grade, while almost 98% were studying in schools.

The survey, which consisted of 36 different sub-surveys, was carried out entirely on tablets in an attempt to save paper.

Addressing questions pertaining to health, domestic violence, education, professional life and marriage, the survey found out that while 98.4 percent girls said women should work, only a 9 percent said that they would be the decision-makers in their life after marriage. Additionally, only 41 percent think women should be paid as much as men.
