This Instagram Artist Paints Real Women With Unabashed Sexuality

Yes, women have sexual desires too. This International Women’s Day, lets get over it.

While a woman’s sexuality is often a subject of intrigue and mystery, it is almost always discussed in hushed voices. However, this Instagram artist illustrates real women who are quite comfortable with their sexual urges.

Manimanjari Sengupta from Kolkata, aims to bring a difference in the way female sexuality is perceived in the society. And to do that, she has picked canvases, pencils, colours and plenty of bold ideas as her weapon.

Standing at 4'10, with my baby face and perpetual puppy dog eyes, I used to find it really hard to feel sexy. It was only after a boyfriend told me I was 'hot' (the comment was greeted with an abundance of suspicion), I decided to believe him. I decided to not be ashamed of the fact that I touched myself. I chose to not dismiss my fantasies as dirty. My self esteem plummeted when this boy left. And then, along came Tinder, and brought with it my new found promiscuity. It was the onset of my glory days - just a whole bunch of hot, varied, consensual sex. I stopped faking orgasms (well, almost), and I was pleasantly surprised at how many men got off at being able to pleasure their woman. Sexual autonomy gave me a new-found confidence, a sense of power; the feeling that misogyny and the culture of shame couldn't touch me. That I'd chew 'em up and spit 'em out if they tried to mess with me. Of course I still feel like an anomaly more often than not, and need tonnes of validation.
