Mother’s Day is almost here. Realistically, I would be happy with just a longish cuddle from my little minion but we get just one day to be recognised, I can’t speak for everyone but I know a lot of young moms don’t want flowers and chocolates. And neither do we want to be spoiled silly by a fancy brunch or a piece of jewellery
Here’s a list of seven things, I’d love on any given day (Mother’s Day just seems like a good excuse):
1. Not To Be Woken Up
Definitely not by a little man poking his finger in the eye to see something totally random. Don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely exhilarating to snuggle in bed with my toddler but that doesn’t mean I won’t appreciate eight hours of shut-eye just once a year. In all probability, I’ll be up and running before 8 am but please let me try once.
2. A Break. Even Five Minutes Will Do!
I wouldn’t trade my title of ‘Mommy’ for anything in the world but it would be nice to take a break from someone shouting that repeatedly. Okay, with a five second break in between each ‘Mommy’, that too in an ascending pitch to the level of a supersonic jet.
You get the drift?
We could do with a reasonable five minute break. Or two-and-a-half.
3. Pee In Peace
It’s only after you’ve had a child that you think of your bathroom rights as a privilege rather than a right. My toddler is totally oblivious to my need to pee in private. A shut door doesn’t matter and he’ll continue the one-sided conversation with frequent knocks despite the fact that I haven’t responded with anything but a courteous ‘hmm’.
4. A ‘Thank You’ and a ‘Sorry’ Once In a While
Add these words to your vocabulary. We don’t expect you to be at your ace behaviour all the time, but kids, it would be wonderful if you don’t clam up each time its your turn to apologise.
5. Finish One Goddam Book From Start To Finish
Once upon a time, If I didn’t have a book for my commute to college, I would stop and pick up one just to have something to read. I would read for fun. Two-and-a-half years after my son, I haven’t finished a single book. You could count blog posts, news scrolls and half-read books as reading but it’s a shame that I haven’t completed a single frikkin book in a long, long time.
6. An Endless Coffee Supply For a Whole Year
Being a mom is tough stuff. Being a working mom is a non-stop roller-coaster filled with feelings and fussing. Supermom? That I am, but coffee first!
I don’t know of any mommy who’d turn down a piping hot latte in the morning.
Remember, motherhood is powered by love, fuelled by coffee and sustained by wine. A never ending wine tap would be good too!
7. No Dealing With Diapers For a Full Day
And no baby poop too.
Thank you very much!
Motherhood is the most horribly-wonderful job on earth!
There are days it can get lonely, boring and borderline miserable. So dear husband and kiddo, make it fun for the mum!
Here’s to the exhaustion, shit, diapers, hours of tantrums and adorable smiles! Moms are worth more than a day but if we get one day, we want to make it worth it!
