It started with 2014. It was the hottest year on record – which goes back over a 100 years. Then it was 2015. And now, 2016 has officially been declared the hottest year on record by NASA.
That’s three years in a row of record temperatures! And there are still orange-faced people out there who say that climate change doesn’t exist.
Globally, temperatures were 1.1 degrees warmer than temperatures before factories started cropping up in the 1750s.
The minute it gets 2 degrees warmer, agricultural output could drop by 15 percent in India. Given that malnutrition is already a problem, that’s a scary thought. Droughts and storms will get much stronger. People will die.
So, citizens of the world, we have some small requests:
- Governments, please crack down on businesses and industries that pollute the environment.
- Pollution inspectors, don’t take bribes and don’t look the other way – it could be fatal for us all.
- Businesses, don’t wait for the government to force you to change. Be a green industry, become eco-friendly already. It’s good for business!
- People of the world, keep putting pressure on governments and corporates. Make sure they know you want them to change.
- On an individual level, let us all vow to make a bunch of green changes in our own lifestyle. Use more public transport, save water, try alternate energy… you know the drill.
Scientists have been warning us about this since the 1950s. When are we going to pay heed? What’s it going to take, guys?
