President of The United Nations General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft is meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi this week to discuss India’s path towards sustainable development.

Countries around the world agreed to a set of seventeen Sustainable Development Goals they plan to achieve by 2030. The goals range from ending poverty, to giving people access to clean water and sanitation, to ending hunger. Here’s a look at how India is doing on the path to UN-mandated development:

While India has made progress on issues like poverty, improving literacy rates and increasing access to drinking water, there are many areas where the country is still behind. There is still a long way to go before more people have access to sanitation, maternal health is secured and malnutrition is reduced.
