So Quantico premiers in India on 3 October 2015. Yay!
And boy how we have been completely obsessed with updates as megastar Priyanka Chopra debuts in the American thriller series, playing a steely FBI agent.
Well, all the good news unfortunately ends there.
To cut long story short, Quantico has been conceived out of the union between Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder. It has all the juicy masala Shonda Rhimes would sprinkle to make her series a success, but that’s exactly where Quantico goes wrong.
The Quint lists out reasons behind why Quantico is a hodgepodge of an American TV series.
Jab We Met
They get drunk, hook up, wake up in the morning and say goodbye, only to realise they’ll be working in the same office. Now, doesn’t the plot sound familiar? Maybe in Shondaland, it does. Remember Grey’s Anatomy when Derek Shepherd and Meredith Grey met for the very first time? The only difference – Alex Parrish (Priyanka) and Ryan Booth (Jake McLaughlin) indulge in some steamy lovemaking in a car outside an airport. Wink, wink!
Original Script
Half-Caucasian and half-Indian Alex Parrish is suspected of masterminding the biggest terrorist attack on New York since 9/11. Now, that’s a well-thought, original script because duh, a brown person will always top the list of suspects when it comes to terrorism. If you are still trying to cash in on the post 9/11 Islamophobia, then there is something terribly wrong with you. Seriously?
Grey’s Academy
Beefy hunks, fiery women, salacious sex, suspense and dark and twisted plots are the main ingredients that make up the diverse cast of Quantico. They’re different from each other, but a common thread links them – their good looks. Move over McDreamy and McSteamy. You’ve got a whole new array of hotties in Quantico.
How to Get Away With Castings
Meet Aunjanue Ellis as Miranda Shaw, the feisty African-American Assistant Director of Quantico academy – wearing short black hair, she welcomes the trainees in her classroom. Just like Professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) from How To Get Away With Murder welcomes her students. Get the point?
To the Rescue
Once framed, Alex Parrish finds herself amidst controversies and has some unanswered questions. Why was she framed? Who are those people? What do they want from her? She has no idea. All she knows is that she needs to hunt them down and prove her innocence and protect her country. To look for answers, she needs to escape, and what better help than Miranda Shaw – an African-American woman helping a brown woman to escape – what a unique and refreshing take on racial solidarity. Slow clap!
